The Awareness of Personal Sustainability⑤

The ten rules of Burning Man, which is one of the greatest art events in the world, give the positive impact to drive sharing their vision of how Burning Man should be, while other founders are calculating how beneficial their events are. What is waiting beyond the vision of Burning Man might be freedom. Sometimes, someone misunderstands that freedom is not endorsed by the duties. I mean, the quality of the freedom reflects the quality of duties. But the democratic nation is now malfunctioning of the non-endorsed one that is spreading. The laws and government would lack as their resources to support the concept of freedom. Thus, Burning Man set the rules to support the freedom that the audience can access. For instance, what the audience attain beyond “Radical Inclusion” is the freedom of expression. There is no physical boundary to share their artwork with others because they have to join. The artists usually can be free because the audience definitely might be interested in their idea first, and feedback also might be given. Interaction has been assured by keeping “Radical Inclusion”. These rules describe how they get the freedom while the Burning Man. This is a reason why I personally think these are just great rules.

One of the issues is to get back to normal for the local community. The restoration in post event is the problem because we can access how dirty after the event there is by searching youtube about Burning Man. Actually, the audience cannot be free from this event until getting back to home. They must think they are observed by local people. No one can be perfect but, if I can say something about this event, the cleanliness of this area must be kept as a post event. Because the residents in the local area have to stay in this area, the audience should respect them.

バーニングマンのルールは彼らのビジョンと理想をシェアする為にある。他の主催者とは通常、どれだけの投資と利益という二者関係から離れる事は難しいだろう。それらのルールを守る事で一体何がえられるのか？それは自由なのかと私は考える。

時々、大きな勘違いをしている人が居るような気がするのだが、自由を実現するにはそれ相応の義務を果たさなければならない。その義務を必要としない自由は金銭によって可能である。自由の質は義務の質を写した鏡なのである。例えば最初のルールでもある積極的な受け入れはどのような自由を保証しているのか。それは表現の自由度を保証しているのかと考える。まずは聞いてみようという意思とエネルギーが観客側にある限り、イベントはそれに応じた盛り上がりを見せるだろう。

今後の課題としてはポストイベントをどう捉えるかだろう。地元民による当該イベントの非難動画を見るのは決して難しく無い状況では、参加者がイベント終了後もモラルを保持する事をどうやって求めていくのか。それはどこまでいってもイベント側に責任があって、何故なら地元民はその1週間だけでなく、比較的長い期間の間そこを住処として生活をする人々だからである。それらの人々を最も尊重する事でイベントは運営されなければならないと考える。
